I remember when George Strait first came out…. I was in 6th grade unwound came out and took texas by storm, later My stepdad would drink beer and play does Ft. worth ever cross your mind on vinyl over and over til he literally wore out the record….. In high school his songs blared out the window of every teenage pickup truck in Lampasas Texas… A lot of boys kissed their first girl to his music and learned to two step. I learned many of his songs in my band in Texas as they were standard fare for any honky-tonk man of that time. His music has been the soundtrack to my life, when I moved to Nashville almost every song I wrote for 20 years were aimed at him trying to get him to record one. And eventually he did… A better rain but I would say most of the songs I ever had recorded were written with him in mind, I figured if I shot for him and missed Id hit someone else and a few times I did. Stacie and I used to have George Strait Fri. night, open a bottle of wine sit on the porch and listen to his whole box set…THOSE NIGHTS WERE SUMTHIN Thanks George for lighting the fire for so many… and keeping songwriters eating for 30 years by cutting their music. Ive seen him perform maybe 10 times in his simple come out sing the song no frills cowboy way and I look forward to his last show in Nashville tonight, Stacie loves him and this will be her first show were gonna have a ball….There wont be another John Wayne and there wont be another legend like King George!!!!!
