I remember when I was in my early teen years, all that was on tv - TopicsExpress

I remember when I was in my early teen years, all that was on tv in the news was the Vietnam war. Many times I prayed and cried for the families of those who were serving. I especially would be upset about those who were hurt and dying right in front of our eyes. My patriotism was brought to life big time through this era. When tv would sign off at night they would play our national anthem and I would always rise and put my hand over my heart. Sometimes I would have tears in my eyes for some of our men and women who had been injured or had died that day . I could not believe how our military was being treated. Young people in droves were abandoning them and being very disrespectful of our soldiers. They were being blamed for deaths and carnage of innocent Vietnamese citizens. Did they not realize most of these people were Vietcong in disguise? We see terrorist using young children and women killing our soldiers today but that was a tactic used even then. It was also very hard to tell friendlies from the enemy. That was the time of the draft and most of our young men had no choice but to fight this war. To this day I hear people say this was a waste of our young peoples lives. I beg to differ from them. We stopped the dominos from falling. Even though South Vietnam fell to the communist North ; they knew we were willing to fight and stop communism from spreading. We showed freedom was very important to us and we were willing to fight to keep it for ourselves and our fellow man. May we always feel this way and May God bless our country and our military in all we do. Special thanks from me to all our Vietnam veterans. Hold your heads high. You did your country proud. Love for God and country always.
