I remember when the draw was made and saw us coming up against a Premier League opponent, the first reaction was, God help us!! Our squad prepared well under the guidance of our coaches, and we were all ready to play this fixture with PRIDE, although we knew it is difficult to face a team which plays top level football and includes six Brazilians in their squad. But our players needed no motivation, they knew that they had to step up their level. Leading to the game, late injuries along with ones we knew about made our squad shorter. But what a nice experience it was last night. The excitement of having a Premier League set up around us at the Centenary Stadium, having Ball Boys from our Nursery with us, a squad of players knowing about the difficult task ahead, a coach that although he knew about it all, gave the confidence needed to our players that after all its a game between Men. Than the game started, and it was all about The Pride of watching the boys represent Mellieha, the first 11 gave us much as they got, the reserves on the bench were in a class of their own supporting their colleagues, the committee were surely proud of the great set up we have, and a positive attitude from our coaches which saw us put our opponents in difficulty in the second half after conceding the goal that proved to be the winner. And what about those who came and gave us their support, THANK YOU, like us I am sure you left with your head held high. The day after this great experience, we can look forward to the next match in two days time vs Mdina Knights with PRIDE. Well done. Hubert Vella
