I remember why we are free. On January 13, 1991, unarmed protesters gathered at the Television Tower in Vilnius to defend against Soviet takeover in an action leading up to re-establishment of independence. Although 14 Lithuanian lives were lost and more than 500 injured, Lithuania prevailed in its quest for independence from the Soviet Union. For-get-me-not flower is now a symbol of our memory.
