I salute those who have served and thought I would share the first passage of Isaac Skillman Ohio Cavalry soldier, second enlistment I am reading. - Jan. 8tn 1864. Orders came for all who enlisted in 61_ and would reenlist for three years more would receive $402, bounty and a thirty days furlough. I put my name down as a victim. The reenlistment to date from Jan, 4-1864. We will have to wait a few days before starting north or, until the rest of our regiment comes up from Woodville, Ala. They are the dismounted boys we left there last November, when we started for Chattanooga. We are still being sent out each day scouting, patrolling, or on vedette duty. Its a very rough, hilly country full of rebel guerrillas and the bushwhackers. We had to go through the hills by their trails and bypaths and running the risk of getting shot, at any moment, by some unseen foe. We have to depend, almost entirely, on this poor section of the country for what little we get to eat, for ourselves or horses. I hardly think a crow ever has the courage to undertake to fly over it, the country being so destitute of anything eatable. The weather still keeps very cold. Rather tough on our poor horses to stand out nights, if they only had enough to eat it wouldnt be quite so hard for them. The high altitude here makes it much colder than in the lower sections of the state.
