I sat down in the library with my game face on and laptop out. I spent all afternoon researching during and post Cold War events for my global history exam essays. I spent the last two hours reading about the crippling poverty in Africa, the violence in the Middle East, the horrific living conditions in India slums. I read about the famine in China killing 15-38 million. I came across the image of a man in Nepal who was punished for theft by being tied to a cross, legs severely burnt, and not let down until after a priest plead, and was given permission, to untie him and take him to a hospital. I saw the intense pain and fear in his still life scream. As I read and read, my heart filled with a stirring that comes from too many emotions to fit in one chest. There are days I am so done with this world. The death, pain, and terror here are just too much to fathom. The heart condition of this world is beyond repair and we see the daily result of sin. But with great suffering comes great hope. This life is but a second. Just a moment. The joy that is coming will make all of the suffering and pain seem insignificant. Thats no small feat. And knowing of this joy, how can we not want to share it with this dark, sad, hopeless world? shouldnt they know Christ took the pain of all sin for all time to give us hope when there was none? Like Paul says, to live is Christ and to die is gain. We must spread hope to every corner of this broken world. We must be Christ in our hands, feet and message. All the while, we look eagerly to eternity. I am sitting in the library. I am longing for something more.
