I saw a video where a family was told that their unborn baby - TopicsExpress

I saw a video where a family was told that their unborn baby had a defect. They were given the option to kill their baby. The circumstance made me think of Brittany Maynard (who is planning to kill herself on November 1st) and the medical community as a whole. Is medicine more about death and throwing in the towel today? But then I started reading the comments on the video. It appears to be a societal norm to choose death. If someone gets too old where they need more care then it is best to end it, if someone is in a bad accident then it might be best just to end it, if someone is sick where all hope seems lost then the right thing to do is end it. Then positive terms are used such as sympathetic termination or dying with dignity. I read in a book that life and death are in the tongue. Someone could be in a tough situation and make it through because they have positive people around them. Positive people that give them the will to to go on... the will to live. A kid at school could be bullied over and over again and told to kill themselves and the next thing to happen is they are found hanging in their room. If we take a stance that life has value, then that can help us make the toughest decisions if we are ever faced with a difficult circumstance. That stance can also help us filter out those negative people. The ones that speak death. The ones that can come at us with such subtly as a pin prick here and razor cut there until we bleed out. There are some good conversations going on with this video: youtube/watch?v=ToNWquoXqJI
