I saw my first fireflies of the summer tonight, and as always, it - TopicsExpress

I saw my first fireflies of the summer tonight, and as always, it reminded me of Chessie Chavis and made me smile. When Chessie was five, she and I lived in Calhoun, Georgia and made regular Monday night visits to see my Maw Maw and Pop in Shannon. Chessie was amazed at how many fireflies there were in Shannon, because we had none in Calhoun. She explained over dinner to my grandmother, that only the male fireflies actually lit up. She was (and still is) very much like Beeb - very smart and full of facts about animals. Anyway, after dinner she went outside to play, and I sat and visited with my grandparents. When it was time to leave, we walked outside, and the entire interior of my car was alight. Chessie had caught hundreds of fireflies and put them in my car. When I asked her about it, she replied, "I am taking some of the boy fireflies home with us so they can meet the girl fireflies that we have at home." It was an interesting ride home.
