I saw my grandmother yesterday. WOW. The changes in a year since I saw her last are mind boggling. This time last year, she was taking care of my mom after my moms spine surgery (some of you may remember that). Now, she is nearly bedridden and is being cared for by the family. It breaks my heart to see her in so much pain. She fell a few weeks ago and hit her head on the bath tub. She also tore the skin on her arm when she fell. No one knows what caused her to fall. She didnt trip. She broke out in Shingles when she got home. They are pretty well healed up now but she has Post Herpatic Neuralgia which is extremely painful. It was so very hard to see her in that kind of pain. Her skin is so thin and so fragile that we cant touch her hands for fear of tearing them :( I wish I didnt have to leave her. Im afraid to leave because I dont want it to be the last time I see her. I did spend a few hours yesterday giving her a pedicure and foot massage. Her feet were really bad, with rheumatoid arthritis and the family was afraid to touch her feet. My feet are the same so I wasnt scared! LOL She looked like she was really enjoying that! Im going to make some calls tomorrow. Going to try to get her something better to manage her pain and find out what the hold up is on Home Health coming to help out. My aunt and mom and grandfather are exhausted. If only I lived here so I could help too. Also going to see if her hair dresser will come to the house and perm her hair. And see if her nail girl can also come on a regular basis and keep her feet up. Grandma doesnt feel good at all because she is a mess in her words. Hopefully these ladies can do some house calls until Grandma gets back on her feet! And then to call the church and ask if someone can bring her the recordings from Sunday Church Service. Grandma loves Jesus and hearing The Word will certainly help her spirits!
