I saw on TV Patrol DOJ officials and police led by Justice Secretary Lilia De Lima conducting a surprise raid at the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa. While not a few Filipinos make do with small, AC- and water-less dwellings, it turns out that some rich prisoners in Bilibid, including a convicted Chinoy drug lord, are living in the lap of luxury, complete with jacuzzi, air cons, color TVs, five-star bathrooms and, believe it or not, music studio with actual instruments. Video footage also showed wads of money in pesos and dollars being confiscated from the rooms of these filthy rich convicts. I wont even bother to ask how they were able to pay for such luxuries while supposedly in prison, but it boggles the mind how a fixture as big as a jacuzzi and as flashy as a drum set escape the eyes of police--from the prison director down to the lowly outpost guard. Dont tell me no one saw rooms being constructed and appliances being installed. It makes my blood boil thinking that we might even be paying for the electricity these convicts consume to power their ACs while serving their sentences. How long has this been happening? This is corruption and incompetence of the highest order!
