I saw the DEC Gaza appeal advert in the Jewish Chronicle yesterday and thought well of the JCs management for running it. It does sit a little uncomfortably with most of the editorial coverage in the paper but it at least demonstrated an understanding that there is now a humanitarian crisis that has to be addressed regardless of who you think is to blame. This morning I heard the BBC running the story that readers of the JC are protesting to the paper for running the advert. Looking at the Facebook page the protestors have created https://facebook/pages/We-demand-a-full-apology-from-the-Jewish-Chronicle/1470243036566558 I can see that it has had only 157 Likes. There are also a great many comments from British Jews condemning their protest and viewing their attitude to the DEC appeal as appalling. I dont believe this Facebook protest is at all representative of British Jewish opinion but it will certainly feed into further anti-Semitic attacks by people who, for good reason thanks to our community leadership, struggle to tell the difference between Judaism and uncritical support for anything done by the State of Israel. Id encourage people to leave comments on the anti-DEC Facebook page below telling them how wrong they are.
