I saw this series of selfies by famous painters recently. With the exception of Frida Kahlo they were all men. It was as if Kahlo was an afterthought. Look, I like men too. I like male painters but until we stop pretending only men are professional painters and stop treating women as quaint hobbyists the serious arts are going to continue to be male dominated. So women, fathers of girls and generally enlightened people: if you are researching artists that you like make some time to learn about women painters. Make time to end the stereotyping.
