I see Atlantas huge infrastructure woes (a hole so deep they will never get out) and demographic challenges such as an extremely wide gap of classes, an epidemic of failing school systems, high poverty, and an over abundance of blue collar unskilled labor (simply demographics) all as contributions of its gradual decline into the future. Atlanta to me grew up recklessly in the 90s, ultimately favoring quantity over quality and almost exclusively opting for the cheaper (low tax, Conservative) option. These issues are all beginning to show their ugly head as we progress into a highly competitive, socially progressive, rapidly technological, environmentally conscious, modern era. As we take our first gasps of air from the recession expect those (cities) with a plan and the cash to implement it to move quickly into the future investing heavily and aggressively. The next 20 years are going to be a hell of a ride, some good some bad. Unfortunately Atlanta had better do a complete 180 or the future is going to rear its ugly head while others nearby (Charlotte, Raleigh, Nashville, Dallas, Houston, etc) steal its thunder. The predators are ready to pounce on the wounded. newgeography/content/001574-is-it-game-over-atlanta
