I see a lot of posts in here from everybody asking questions like should I do this? can I do this? What do yall think about about putting this effect on a vocal?etc.. Let me just say this.. Its GREAT to ask questions like that and this facebook page is fantastic, especially the resoponses that everybody gets on their posts! Keep asking those questions by all means! But there is 1 rule I love to follow when mixing.. THERE ARE NO RULES. There is literally no specific set of rules that you have to follow for mixing, period. There are no guidelines that describe what you need to do in your mix to get it to sound great. Every single project is different, which makes every mix different! Just because someone doesnt like an effect you did, doesnt mean you cant do it. Its not their mix, its yours. Music is very subjective, especially from other mix engineers. Im not going to take an effect off a vocal just because one person said they didnt like it! If it adds something positive to the mix, and you like it, then keep it! (unless the artist doesnt like it). If you want to see how a vocal sounds with an amp plugin on it, then try it! If you want to put a certain delay on an instrument, try it! It will never hurt to try things, it will only hurt to not try things. If you dont like it, you can always take it off! The great part about mixing, is that you can experiment with different things! You dont necessarily want to do what everyone else is doing.. Doing things out of the ordinary will let your mixes stand out from the rest!
