I see no reason why the Federal and State governments are not - TopicsExpress

I see no reason why the Federal and State governments are not considering the judiciary demand of financial autonomy. It is stated in section 162, subsection 9 of the 1999 constitution of Nigeria as amended in 2011, that Any amount standing to the credit of the judiciary in the Federation Account shall be paid directly to the National Judicial Councils of that State on such terms and in such manner as may be priscribed by the House of Assembly of the State. This clause in the constitution clearly puts the responsibility on the State governments. The judiciary has been highly marginalized in Nigeria and has become a political puppet to the Federal and State governments. If we want Nigeria to develop, we must start revolution with the motive of granting the judiciary autonomy so as to have a clear separation of power. The judiciary must be free to give unbiase judgement without fear of favour. We must make the judiciary independent in order for them not to be used by our greedy politicians to fulfil their political objectives. The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has been on strike nationwide on the 5th of January 2015, to press home their demand. It is realy affecting legal procedure and court process. Political actors think of embezzling money to strengthen their quest for power in February with disregard to the third arm of government. May God help Nigeria!
