I see the images of the children on our southern border, and my heart aches. As a mother, a grandmother, and a citizen of the United States of America, I cannot imagine any situation in which I would bundle up my small children, or my teenagers, and send them more than 1000 miles on a very dangerous journey. To face what? Some of them cry for their parents, some of them cry because they are given food to eat and they are sad because they know their parents back home are hungry, and, thats not to mention the ones who didnt make it, the ones whose bodies are lying in the desert, or maybe buried in unmarked graves. Im sure you are sick of all the rhetoric about this situation, and the last thing you want to see this morning is my fb post dedicated to this terrible situation. Im venting, and I dont blame you for moving on after reading the first line. My anger this morning is directed to those in power everywhere who make such a terrible mess of things. The confusion, the turmoil all over the world makes me question how so many people in power can be so uncaring, so inept, so cruel, so stupid. Give us power, they say, And you will see peace and prosperity as has never been seen before. When I see the plight of many in the world, I think of a line from the old movie, Man of La Mancha. As Aldonza/Dulcinea sat beside the road after having been raped and abused by mule drivers, she screamed at Don Quixote, Dont call me a lady! Im not any kind of a lady! The world is a dung heap and we are all just maggots crawling upon it. Im sure it feels that way to many in the world who know nothing but hunger, want, and abuse. This morning I see our politicians and world leaders as maggots on that dung heap. They struggle and crawl about, blind to the suffering around them, seeking power while the people who should benefit from their governing are not even an afterthought until they want votes. They enjoy lives of luxury, even opulence, and constantly want more of our money so they can do a better job. We argue along party lines while they all render each other powerless because they only focus on power and the next election. They give lip service to problems to make a show. Give us more money, is their constant cry. Mean, spiteful children playing with power, as they laugh, eat, and drink while so many suffer.
