I seem to get alot of mail from fellow artists wanting my opinion on their music. Especially those that consider themselves upcoming ones. Now trust me when I say Im not offended by this nor am I putting anyone down but I feel this will help alot of artists. If you really feel you have good music & want to progress the first and best priority is a good producer. Not another artist. Its producers that do the hard word of production and learning the strengths and weaknesses that make one a better artist. Plus when a good producer really likes your talent, money is the least thing on his mind. Producers also have a tendency of connecting bright young talent with already established artists they have worked with. For example when my producer calls me up and says dude theres this new artist you really need to come listen to. Id rush to the studio cause I know he means business. After production is complete then take it to the Djs. What would an artist be without a Dj? Dont worry about the fame. I see alot of fame chasing and its a recipe for disaster. I have other artist come up to me and ask how does it feel to be up there? This breaks my heart cause i dont feel any artist should make another as the goal of where they wana be. I went through this whith my idolizing of lecrea, Kim walker,Bunty and every other artist i liked phase. I only realised later those other artists had their own calling and their own purpose that God gave them and i had to discover my own. This is why our music industry is flooded with so much copycat music. And this is world wide people . Some labels rush to sign artist who sound like the current hyped music of the time and drop the artist once the hype dies. Once an artist or band does something good or brings in a new style then all the sudden that becomes tradition. This unfortunately also happens in the church as well . Art should be evolving not stagnant. So be less about being known and be more about nurturing your talent. Take vocal lessons if you must or learn to play an intrument. Theres no better time like preperation time.
