I sent this out to my fellow Politcal-Friends last week. Well, this just sucks… Oh those many years ago when I was really depressed after my divorce, a couple of local SF friends tried to cheer me up by inviting me to their Improve Night where they performed. I went… and after an hour or so of watching some fun Improv, my old buddy pretended like he didn’t know me and tried to get me to “come up on stage” and do some Improve with them… After some encouragement from him, the rest of the Players and the Audience (and after chugging the rest of my Beer) I went up on stage and had a blast. It went well enough that he invited me back as a shill. I would sit in the Audience and the Performers would pretend they didn’t know me and when it came time for their Audience Participation part of the Show, he would invite me up to do some Improv, and after the requisite theatrics of encouragement I would go onstage and mess-around with the real Comedians and then the audience would assume that if this lanky schlub can do it, well, they figured they could do it to. That was the point - to get the audience relaxed enough to participate. One evening after I did my shill thing, I went backstage and, lo-and-fuggin’-behold, Robin was there. I was a little stunned and when they announced a “Special Guest,” I excused myself to go sit in the audience and see what Robin and my Friends were gonna come-up with. I started to leave and Robin grabbed my shoulder and asked, “Where ya goin’?” I told him I was gonna watch the show from the bar and he said, “No, man… C’mon with us. You were pretty good.” More stunned… But I went out with these Profession Crazy People (which I can now also claim as one of my many Titles) and had a complete blast trying to keep up with the fastest man alive.
