I should probably create some original content. Ive got a rant, though it may draw some heat... So here goes nothing. Conservatives are divided on what to do about Iraq right now. We leave, and chaos erupts. What has happened? Nothing; thats the problem. People there dont have a properly structured paradigm. We can restructure their government and infrastructure, but getting their minds to accept it is another issue. Many have given up hope. Some people dont like occupation of another country because they believe that every country should learn to stand on their own and follow whatever path they may choose. Some dont like it because of the cost of an occupation. Some have an agenda against the occupying country. Some claim the first but are convicted by one, sometimes both, of the former. So with what lens are we to view this situation? We need to decide and pick a stance. I personally view this from a more humanitarian perspective. People are being persecuted and slaughtered. This Needs to end. May I rewind for a moment to Rwanda? The UN did nothing; the situation didnt fit their definition of genocide. So what do we do? Stand back, and do nothing. let them work it out. In hindsight the Vast majority of Americans wouldve wanted us to go over there and stop it. But, #politics. In the end it was the FRENCH- the legendarily weak FRENCH- that grew some balls and did anything at all. Do we learn from history? Do we take a stand and say The French arent better than us!? Do I give #politics the finger and do what is morally best? I think so. There are only 2 ways I can see a resolution. First, we could restore a powerful government like what they had before we came in and screwed things up. Its not the most desirable by any means, but its Far better than what we left in our wake. The other option is the Slightly more desirable (from a humanitarian perspective) LONG TERM occupation, maybe a generation or 2, until basic things like: -women have rights -Jews have rights -we shouldnt kill people who dont agree with us; including dissenting Muslims, Muslims of another school of belief, people with a different belief altogether, neutral people, those of another political view, etc... -the press has a right to say whatever the heck it wants to say -We shouldnt force our beliefs as law even with those who believe the same belief system we do -so on, so forth have been integrated into their paradigm.
