I simply cannot understand how the US will benefit from the XL pipeline. It will provide 200 temporary jobs and 35 permanent jobs. But for those jobs we will allow the filthiest oil on the planet to transit the nations heartland. If there is any spillage or seepage (and inevitably there will be sooner or later), then the nations largest aquifer will be contaminated and with it thousands of acres of land planted with crops that feed the nation. Food security and clean, safe water are much more important than transporting Canadian oil to refineries on the Gulf of Mexico where almost all of it will be shipped abroad. If the Canadians (whom I revere as a nation) dont want a pipeline and refinery on their own territory, why should we Americans who will get almost nothing positive from this and could endure severe environmental damage and destruction of the food supplied by most of the center of the nation. If any of my FB friends can explain why the Pipeline is a good idea, please explain here. Dont worry, I will NOT unfriend you.
