I somehow didnt post this yesterday so here it is! Prematurity is something that effects so many babies. There isnt anything that can prepare you for the fight and struggle that comes with your little bundle of joy showing their face alittle (or alot) earlier then planned. I am the mother of not 1 but 2 preemies. Last year I shared my oldest sons story, this year its Owens turn. Owen came into the world at 26 weeks. Even on bedrest, recieving hormone shots and visitung the doctor weekly , I still ended up in the hospital blacking out and seizing. Immediatly they delivered my little man via emergency c section at 1 lb 9oz. The NICU is not for the weak at heart. He was in amazing hands at UofL. A hole in his heart,c pap, ivs , feeding tubes, perforation in his bowels,and several blood transfusions later at a whopping 4 lbs 11oz we got to go home after 3 months hard time in the NiCU.. for a day or two. Immediately he contracted RSV , for thise of you that dont know thiscan be deadly to these little guys. He turned blue was cold to the touch and wasnt breathing. Alone , i resuscitated him and immediately called for an ambulance. Another month in the hospital (i wont get into further details , just think scariest month of my life , even worse then the prior 3 months) and finally my littlefighter came home for good. If you want to help kiddos like Owen , donate to the March of Dimes or Ronald McDonald Charities. We wouldnt have made it through without those two services! With prematurity you never know what is next, as your child gets older new issues can arise or not. We need more research that can be lead to fewer and fewer babies. Being born early .
