I sometimes joke with my wife - I come across all types in my travels, but if theres any form of religious belief within a thousand miles of me - it shows up at my door, good or bad. My wive used to joke with me when I came home - Uhhh, Ted - your friends were here again. they left you a note. And there would be a couple of Watchtower magazines with a little note penciled in - Hey Ted. Thought you might find these interesting. A Christmas party I once attended with well over 300 people in the room, and who did I end up sitting next to? You guessed it. A young minister and his wife - the only religious people in the whole room. Gods got a sense of humor I guess. But some things have changed for me, and some interests I have dropped. My father and I were very fond of horror and science fiction films, and used to watch anything and everything. We thought of them as harmless escapes, a two hour entertainment, nothing more. But the book I am reading on and off by H. W. Wright says this: Scripture tells us there is no protection from God if you do not shield your eyes from seeing the shedding of blood and hold your ears from what is happening in evil. When you watch junk on your video machine and your television with movies about mutilation, horror and murder, there is no protection from God for you from the sleeplessness and the projection of tragedy. I guard my heart as to what I look at. I wont watch anything that makes me condone evil. I do not watch rapes on television. I do not watch violence on television. I will get away from it, turn it off and have taught my children to do their own censorship as well. When you open your eyes and heart to evil garbage, you are desensitizing yourself to the Spirit of God and condoning evil in your heart. You say, Well, Im not doing it. Im just watching it. God says you are wrong!! You are an accessory to evil. What you condone is what you establish!!......I think about that, and it is true. Even in Hollywood films, it is portrayed. Ever seen the stylized version of Dracula done by F. F. Coppola starring Gary Oldman? Remember the shadows on the wall of the castle, as Keanu Reeves approaches the door, and their actions. Remember the change in the shadows actions on the walls when he steps across the threshold. He is now in evils domain - and unprotected. Its all there in symbolism - even in silly make believe.
