I spend a lot of time speaking to the general public. I try to make my positions as short, rational and have as much impact as possible. Regarding the KXL pipeline: There is a heavily financed campaign attempting to convince Americans that the KXL is about jobs and reducing our dependence on foreign oil. Jobs? The stats I have seen say the KXL will create between 1,500-5,000 temporary jobs while it is being built after which it will take a minimum of 100 to a maximum of 450 jobs to maintain it. Even if we use the higher conservative estimates, are 450 jobs worth putting the drinking water for millions of American Citizens at risk? As to reducing our dependence on foreign oil. How does taking the dirtiest form of energy on the planet from Canada, shipping it south across our country to the Gulf of Mexico and loading it onto oil tankers and shipping it to China reduce our dependence on foreign oil? Answer, it doesnt. The KXL pipeline is about making billions of dollars for Trans Canada and Koch Industries PERIOD. If anyone is still in favor of this pipeline it is only because they choose to remain uninformed, or worse, misinformed by a propaganda campaign by the fossil fuel industry. We need to start listening to more Bill Nye and less Bill OReilly.
