I spent a pleasant hour or so with Sean Moyses this afternoon. As well as playing amateur radio for a while, we discussed at length the dire condition of UK traditional jazz scene. There has been considerable discussion of this on various Facebook groups including John Petters Traditional Jazz & Swing Group and Jazzers. It has been suggested that an on-line magazine could be a way to go as Sean mentioned this afternoon. I think Simon Holliday or maybe someone else already suggested I set one up. It is too much for me - but there is such a vast amount of talent amongst my FB friends that it may not be such a daft idea. Looking at the informed posts by many musicians and fans on the various groups, it could be an interesting project - maybe a blog. 2015 is going to be an important year for the music as it adapts to the loss of such important icons as Acker, Kenny, Terry Lightfoot, etc. The growing amount of new young bands and musicians is very positive. As are the young dancers. We all need to sharpen up our acts and consider seriously the way forward.
