I spent the day celebrating the 50th Anniversary of THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. with a small group of fellow U.N.C.L.E. fans on the Sony (formerly MGM) lot. We toured soundstages and buildings where the series was made. One of our tour guides was GEORGE LEHR, who oversaw all aspects of the production of the entire series. He was full of stories and anecdotes about the various locations we visited. Also in our group was RICHARD CONROY who designed the unique U.N.C.L.E. gun. Much to my surprise, he revealed to me that he also designed the famous STAR TREK laser rifle seen in the original pilot and several later episodes of that iconic sci-fi series. And, of course, this lot was also famous for being the home of all the classic MGM movies which were shot there like WIZARD OF OZ, and films of FRED ASTAIRE, GENE KELLY, JUDY GARLAND, and so many others. Day two of this private celebration, dubbed The Golden Anniversary Affair, commences tomorrow with panels featuring U.N.C.L.E. creative talents like director JOSEPH SARGENT and composer LALO SCHIFRIN (who also wrote the Mission Impossible theme). TV and Movie nostalgia all rolled into one event! Open channel D! (My thanks to fellow U.N.C.L.E. fan John Champion who originally posted the picture of our tour badge and event program which Ive reposted here.)
