I stand with you all as we mourn our fellow citizens who were so brutally massacred in Mandera. We cannot begin to comprehend how their lives of their families have turned upside down, but we pray for peace and that the Almighty shall give them strength for the days to come. And even as we contemplate the changes that the President instituted in the Ministry of Interior Coordination, we must begin to ask ourselves pertinent post-mortem questions. Did the security challenges we have experienced arise purely from personality weaknesses or could some of them have been systematic? Are these problems internal and purely within our control or could some of them have been beyond our control? The answer to these questions should guide the incoming leadership and the strategy going forward. However in my experience, leadership is never about being it all i.e knowing it all and providing all the proper answers. True leadership is about empowering those beneath you so that you can be able to draw the best out of each one individually. The clincher is this: one must be able to inspire them to become their best.
