I started the day with the quote by Christopher Reeve: Once you - TopicsExpress

I started the day with the quote by Christopher Reeve: Once you choose hope, anything is possible. Do you remember him? He was the actor who played Superman in the 1978 version. In 1995, Reeve was riding his horse when he fell and sustained a cervical spinal injury that paralyzed him from the neck down. Following the accident he became Chairman of the American Paralysis Association and Vice Chairman of the National Organization on Disability. He co-founded the Reeve-Irvine Research Center, which is now one of the leading spinal cord research centers in the world. He inspires me and reminds me that hope enables us to transcend the hardest things, endure the most difficult experiences. I was thinking about hope during the night. I was thinking about how it is kind of like a fuel that enables us to keep going in our lives. You dont really think about it so much when you have plenty but when you are running out you really notice it! It is one of those things you kind of take for granted but without it there is no chance of getting from A to B! Is it possible to keep your hope topped up, like topping up the fuel in your car? I believe it is. I believe there are things that keep us connected to hope and if we can identify them we can nurture them. Things like remembering how we have got through hard things before. Remembering people who encourage us and inspire us to keep going when we are struggling. Things like joining in with a meeting of people all working to grow and change their lives. Hope is like a fuel but it our connection to it is like a cord that we can strengthen. We can add more cords, knit them together, plait them even! We can notice the things that keep us feeling hopeful and do more of them. We can be the active builders and nurturers of hope in our own lives. What helps you stay connected to hope? I think that many of us find our connections to hope strengthened by sharing with each other - I certainly do - so do share what keeps hope alive for you, what keeps you reaching forwards - that may just be the thing that gives hope to someone else who is struggling today who had maybe run our of their own supplies of hope. Love and hugs ~ Sue
