I started to tell yall about the adventure my family had today.. but .. adventure implies it was a GOOD thing, and it was NOT. My phone rang around 10:20 this morning. It was a call from my dad... there was a noticeable quaver in his voice.. he then informed me that he & my mom were in Union City and a man had run over them.. and they were on their way to the emergency room. He instructed me to call my little brother & tell him, he then went on to say.. You dont have to come, were alright... Yeah right.. like Im NOT going over there?!?! I was out the door & in my truck in under 10 minutes.. and it took even LESS time for me to drive to Union City, BECAUSE---YES.. I broke the speed limit.. by quite a lot actually.. I made it to the emergency room parking lot & saw dads truck.. without a SCRATCH on it!! I hurried in to the emergency room, requested their room number and a buzz to get me thru the door.. I found them in room 10.. mom sitting calmly in a chair by dads bedside, (she wasnt bleeding or hurt or ANYTHING!.) Dad was pale, and bleeding..looking worse for the wear... Thats when I asked WHAT HAPPENED?!? The truck isnt even hurt!!. Thats when he informed me that the truck did NOT get hit-- HE got HIT! They had been to a yard sale, the driveway was uphill.. when they started down, a guy driving a car decided to back out and didnt see them.. Mom was out of the way, but he knocked dad down on the concrete.. Not good for an 84 year old man... His knee is swelled up, some scratches on his hand, but luckily NO broken bones!! While we were sitting there waiting for him to be taken to get x-rays he looked down at his feet and said, Well, that hole in my sock wasnt that big when I put it on this morning. Mom asked him why he didnt just throw them away & he replied that he thought he could get one more wearing out of them.. He laughed a little and jokingly asked mom if she had a needle and thread.. She calmly reached for her purse and pulled out a packet with several colors of thread, and a needle already threaded up with the perfect color of thread. She then proceeded to stitch up dads sock, with it ON his foot! Dad said he figured that was probably a FIRST and I told him I was glad it was his SOCK getting stitched up and not HIM!! About an hour later he started laughing so hard he had tears in his eyes.. just from thinking about mother sewing up his sock. I think that made his day... :)
