I started typing out a few topics I thought would go well in a single post but with the way I ramble on it seems I may need several posts. In any case heres a short one for tonight... I find it disappointing when I continually see snarky comments about public cosplay pages and implying that having one is somehow some sort of attention-seeking venture with the aim to be famous. I must admit that I did struggle to overcome my own perceptions of arrogance when I first started this page myself (it took me a year before I create one and then another 4 months before I started actively using it) but most of the time its not even about that. When artists sign up for a deviantArt account, they do so because they want a place to show off their work online. Photographers might do the same with a Flicker account, an aspiring film maker might use YouTube or Vimeo as their platform. And that is all this is, when a cosplayer starts a page on Facebook, its simply a way for them to display their work without having to worry about any intrusions into their private profile. For many this is a handy bufferzone. I get that often its only a joke to some people but it can make others more self concious about themselves and their own work if they think theyll be called narcissistic simply because they want to celebrate and share what they do with others that might be interested. This isnt about the “changing face of cosplay”, not everyone is out to be cosfamous (a topic for another time), many simply want an easily accessible forum to share their work. Its that simple.
