I stayed home from work sick today.... Of which I rarely do out of the unsettling fear that I know I am a replaceable cog in a machine of itinerant worker bees. This is why many workers go in when they should not, but this post is not about that.. Yes it does come down to that, but more importantly than losing a source of income for providing for my children, I should not selfishly inflict upon others an ability to perform their work functions... Now beyond that.. As I lay in misery of some viral or bacterial sickness my only mode of staying engaged is reading and listening. I, while feeling somewhat better now after sleeping away the day to allow the sickness run its course, had the good fortune of running across a speaking engagement of Chris Hedges. A man of prescience, whom no doubt in the evolution of human consciousness will one day be remembered as a soldier of human dignity. If you so choose, take one hour and listen to his steadfast and eloquent diagnosis of our collective madness which must be at first acknowledged, then of course acted upon. The optimist in me feels we will overcome, the pessimist in me worries for posterity.. All in all a sick day turned educational... Bless us all youtu.be/f4iw765cKO0
