I stopped at a gas station on the way home from Beaverton this - TopicsExpress

I stopped at a gas station on the way home from Beaverton this afternoon to top off the tank in the Javamobile. I always drive with the service window open, so my menus are visible. Some guy pulls up at the next island, gets out of his truck, looks at my menus and asks if Im open. Hes nicely dressed; slacks, polo shirt, etc. I said Yeah I guess so, if the manager doesnt mind. Hes standing right there, and gives me a nod, so I asked the guy what he wanted: Your biggest cup of black coffee, I start making it for him. He spots the picture of me with John Kerry on my refrigerator door... Him: Youre a Democrat, I take it. Me: Actually, Im not. Im an Independent liberal. So what do you think of Obummer? (Oh, brother... here it comes). Now normally, Id NEVER talk politics with a customer I didnt know, but this guy was an exception. He brought it up, Id never seen him before, and since I wasnt at one of my fixed venues, Ill probably never see him again...so what the hell. I engaged him. I think hes fine, I hand him his coffee, he hands me a $20. Did you see the latest job figures yesterday? Were still stagnant. Where are the jobs he promised? Yes, I saw them, and no, were not stagnant. Weve added another 217,000 jobs and unemployment is now around 6.3%, the lowest its been since the recession hit. Finally. It only took him six years. I looked up from what I was doing and handed him his change; It took six years because his predecessor put us in a deeper shit-hole than at any time since the Great Depression, and unlike FDR, this president also has to deal with a Congress thats been doing everything they can to sabotage the recovery. So youre saying its the fault of the Republicans that the recovery was so sluggish? Absolutely. Everything is always someone elses fault. Its never Obummers fault. I just smiled at him, handed him a Java Jacket, thanked him and told him I had to go. He forces a smile back, takes a sip of his coffee, and says; You make good coffee, and gets in his pickup – which had Idaho license plates. So near, and yet so far. :/
