I stopped buying or reading the Cochrane Times-Post some time ago, - TopicsExpress

I stopped buying or reading the Cochrane Times-Post some time ago, and the last two editions of this newspaper confirm my reasons why. However the editorials have been provided to me and I have been asked to offer my thoughts. I will not engage in a pointless competition with the Cochrane Times-Post, or Mr. Politis for that matter, as it is obvious from last week’s Editorial, as well as this week’s Editorial, that our local newspaper and the Editor are strong supporters of Mr. Politis. I believe he may be a personal friend of Mr. Majors as well. I expect more of the same in next week’s paper. In my opinion, it’s a shame that the Editor is not following the three basic qualities which should guide the work of a good journalist – being fast, fair and accurate. Speed comes from increasing knowledge, confidence and experience. Accuracy comes from attention to detail and hard work in finding, checking and re-checking details. Fairness is the hardest to define, but it has a lot to do with avoiding bias, treating people equally and allowing people to have equal chances to do things or express themselves. I believe the Editor of our local paper has failed in all three of these qualities in these writings. Or are these his writings? Buried on page 11 of the October 2 edition of the Cochrane Times-Post was PART of my outline I was requested to submit to the paper. When I say part, my outline was not completely published as submitted. My entire outline was emailed to the paper so there is no reason for the omissions. While I take offence to the latest editorial, I will let the voters decide, as they are the reason I am running for Mayor of this beautiful Town, and I trust they will make themselves informed on the issues in this very important Election and why we need a change. I believe in working together for the betterment of our Town and don’t wish to waste time with negative self-serving remarks from individuals. I look forward to creating a unified Council and getting back to working for the things that matter most and stop the wasteful spending. Thank you for your interest. As always, I am available for a discussion, and you may contact me at any time: 705-272-5271. Denis Clement
