I strongly believe that Maulana Abdul Aziz of Lal Masjid should have condemned the Peshawar massacre because his denial can further strengthen the ideology of these terrorist groups. But, on the basis of Maulana’s personal opinion people like Altaf Hussain cannot ask authorities to demolish Lal Masjid and other religious institutions. In fact Maulana must be investigated for why he is supporting TTP’s ideology and also the government authorities must investigate other related root causes which are leading to this mess. I was expecting a strong condemnation from media and civil society regarding Altaf’s statement but I could not see any condemnation against such a provocative statement. I also believe that we just cannot eradicate this mess of terrorism by demolishing religious institutions rather it can only be eradicated by uprooting their ideology and with the help and support of Pakistani people. I would also say that the funding to not only religious institutions but also to other non-governmental organizations must be regulated through government to minimize chances of usage of these funds for anti-state and anti-Islam activities.
