I stumbled on this scrolling through my tags on Shazaam. I was brought back to that haunting closing to The Sopranos episode in which Tony is slipping in and out of his coma and dreaming about a different life. I remembered drifting back to my bedroom, leveled by the shows ability to find so much compassion for and complexity in someone who could easily be written of as a monster. And re-listening now, feeling grateful for artists who give us empathy for people wed rather cast out. Shakespeare, David Simon, Paula Vogel, Jennifer Egan, Katharine Dunn, Simon Stephens, Conor McPherson, I could go on… Which artists do that for you?
