I swear, a lot of people seriously misunderstood this scene. The whole point of this scene is too show how much Jonathan Kent loves Clark and how far hes willing to go to protect his secret. Put yourself in Jonathans position. You find and raise a child thats an alien and has all these great powers, wouldnt you want him to hide his powers from the public because of the possibility of people fearing him for what he can do and also risk catching the attention of the government who could take him away to either imprison him or experiment on him, not to mention the government killing all the people who know about your kids abilities to cover everything up? Wouldnt you want your kid to hide this power until the time was right to do so? Thats the whole point of this scene.
