I swear, this is not a summer rerun, but Voter ID laws are back in - TopicsExpress

I swear, this is not a summer rerun, but Voter ID laws are back in the news…North Carolina Gov. Patrick McCrory just signed a Republican-backed bill that requires voters to show a photo ID. Its backers call it a common sense measure to prevent voter fraud that’s approved by 70 percent of North Carolinians and the Supreme Court. Of course, the ink wasn’t even dry before civil rights groups had filed a lawsuit to stop it. They claim it puts an unreasonable burden on the poor and minorities by forcing them to stand in long lines at the DMV for a free state ID. My question is, if they don’t already have a photo ID, how do they survive? These days, it seems as if voting is the only thing you DON’T have to show a photo ID for. I don’t hear the left complaining about the burden of long lines at government agencies as they keep encouraging millions more people to sign up for food stamps. Instead of suing to stop voter ID laws, maybe they should try demanding that government services be more efficient.
