I take it that not very many outside of immediate family know that in 2014 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. So heres what I know & understand to keep everyone up-to-date on what is happening. To date I have had 3 bone scans done and 2 CT scans. The bone scans confirm that the cancer is still confined to the prostate. My PSA level is at about 6; normal is 4 and under. PSA is a cancer indicator. A reading that starts to grow indicates the presence of cancer. The higher the reading the more cancer there is. My PSA levels were at a high of just over 40, then down to 5.4 then up to 6. I will be going back to the cancer clinic in Prince George on September 08, 2014 to begin 6-7 weeks of radiation treatment to kill the cancer cells. I am very optimistic that I will overcome this disease. I believe it was caught at an early stage. Right now I feel very good. Im still very active doing craft work and taking on the occasional small building contract here in the village. I am presently on hormone therapy treatment where I receive a needle about every 3 months to keep my body from producing estrogen. Cancer cells feed off estrogen so we taking away what the cancer needs to grow. There are some side effects from that treatment but they are minimal and I am taking a couple of pills to deal with them. I am a strong believer in the power of prayer so if you can, please pray for my overcoming this disease in the way you are most comfortable. And if any of you have any questions, please, dont be afraid to ask.
