I think I just figured out why the term feminist bothers me, particularly if I am being referred to as one. In taking apart the word, feminist, it is obviously female dominant. Negative social and political connotations and situations aside, putting a woman first is not even what I have in mind. I dont need or think it better for a woman to rule over man any more than I think it better for a man to rule over a woman. This is still based on gender. And this does not make sense to me. What I would like to be is a humanist. Or something within that meaning. Where leadership is dictated by merit and character and skill. Where careers and passions are pursued because of desire and remain open to the pursuit if any person, without any basis of gender or skin color, or other factors that have nothing to do with a career. What I would like to see is that, as human beings by and large dictate the course of life on this planet, that we would share opportunity and allow for any person to chase after what they would like. Yes, women are amazing. But so are men. And so is every gender in between. People are awesome. And cool. And interesting. And fascinating. So. I would like to redefine the word humanist a bit. Human beings are cool. Lets open up the world for opportunity. Lets allow that women are brilliant. And so are men. Lets allow that women are strong and so are men. Lets be aware that men are capable of being amazing caretakers. And so are women. Lets remember that every one of us is flawed, imperfect, has emotions and passions. And that at no point should any manner of our biology and/or expression be that which limits a person. We have enough limitations in this world. Lets stop with calling someone more or less capable because of their genitals. So for now, I am hijacking the word, humanist. Lets be humans to each other. Humans who have a whole bunch of skills that all mixed together make a big planet and can do amazing things to keep it working and even working better.
