I think I was about 10 years of age. My good buddy, Leo Lacaze - TopicsExpress

I think I was about 10 years of age. My good buddy, Leo Lacaze and I rode horses together, he lived about a mile or two from our home. Leo had a beautiful mare and she was to have a colt. Leo promised me that when the colt was weaned, he would sell to me for $10. I did not have $10 but I wanted that colt. Grand dad told me that if I worked his cotton patch he would give me the money for the colt. Time passed, the filly was born and weaned, I went paid Leo the $10 and brought the filly home. She was beautiful, a chestnut with white mane, stocking legs and a blaze face. She, I named her Princess, was so little I did not want to put her in the pasture fearing she might be harmed by the older horses. I raised her in the yard that had a wooden fence until she was older. She was a playful filly that if I ran by and hit her on the rump she would chase me, even on the porch where Mom and Granny would chase us off the porch with the broom. At the time Princess was more than 2 years of age, I began to break her to saddle. She was a one man horse, did not want others to ride her, even when Myrna and I were dating and she would come to my home to ride she would ride Princess. If she came close to climb on her back, she would raise her back leg and dare Myrna to come closer, I would have to assist Myrna to the saddle, then Princess was OK, as long as she knew that Myrna was ok with me. Princess was a filly born in the Month of May, seems as though horses born in May have a need to play in water. Myrna was riding and we rode to the Beouf River. I encouraged Myrna to ride Princess into the river so that she may have a drink of water, knowing that as soon as the water reached her belly she would lay down in the water, so she did, dumping Myrna head first into the river, Had to take Myrna home for Mom to give her a change of clothes before they took retribution on me for the prank. I had many horses after Princess but never one that I loved more than her, when I went away to NLU, a young lady living close wanted to have Princess and knowing that she would have the best of home, I let her have the horse. A good decision, both were happy to be together and she did care for the horse as I would. I believe the lady was Nanette?
