I think I will have to change my tone when it comes to people who work in "law enforcement". That is because, and yes there is irony that follows, I am training with sheriff deputies, probation officers and marines. Since my goal is to learn how to defend myself, I leave the "politics" at home and focus instead on throwing combinations and blocking knives. I forget, sometimes, in all my obstreperous legal verbiage, cops, soldiers, and other insurgents, are -- ab initio -- people. Never do I intend to suggest they are less than people. Maybe misguided, but men and women nonetheless. This thought leads me to ponder the erudition of Sun Tzu, who wrote in "The Art of War": "If you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles... if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle." Now, I am not saying sheriffs deputies, probation officers, and marines are my enemy, but, training with them puts things in perspective.
