I think SWANECO headed by Tony Nesianya of respected News Agency of Nigeria should by now publish the guidelines for this years election of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria Lagos state chapter in a bid to avoid tainting the electoral process. I gathered from reliable sources that some prospective candidates failed the screening because they are freelance journalists while others scaled the hurdle despite being a freelance journalist too. I am made to understand that some unscrupulous elements sitting under NTA tree at the National Stadium without a medium but parading themselves as sports writers are currently constituting themselves into nuisance and holding the respected body into ransom. These set of people all have SWAN ID cards and I am beginning to wonder where they got it while other known journalists working their socks off have been denied voting because they do not possess the ID card. A medium registered about 40 voters just for the sake of the election as to protect the interest of their candidate. My question is Can even CNN boast of 40 full time sport journalist? Since the election date has been postponed to December 5th, cant SWANECO extend the date for form sale? We are all saying NO to HOOLIGANISM, IMPOSITION OF CANDIDATES, TRIBALISM or GODFATHERISM. Younger generation of journalists desirous of CHANGE are tired of journalists who have over the years brought the noble profession into disrepute and we are crying for change.!!! We will stop at nothing before, during and after the election to make sure that Lagos SWAN gets to that enviable height which will be made possible through free, fair and credible electoral process.
