I think Shanu missed a point here which I believe important in this dialogue. The ideological and electoral tussle in India is not between right- and left-wing liberals, but between right-wing authoritarianism and an Indian mixture of socialists, centrists and liberals. I’m yet to see a liberal right-wing party in India. Modi aka Sangh is a manifestation of religious right-wing conservatism which both left- and right-wing liberals despise. I think this is not only matter of electoral politics, but a paradigm shift, a regime and ideology which has the potential to convert a nation of misery to a fascistic nation. May be the fears of left-ling liberals are far-fetched but I don’t think they are completely unfounded.
