I think its about time somebody finally made an ad like this, so Im going to be super nurse and use it as a teaching opportunity. Continue with my shpeel if you wish... Growing up, I was always an active child, but I ate whatever I wanted. I had two parents that each worked full time, my mom worked days and my dad worked nights, and I had a younger brother and sister, so meals were quick and easy--fast food, usually. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was in kindergarten, so my parents contributed me being a chunky kid to that. I was told at age 11 or 12 that I was insulin resistant or borderline diabetic. I had no idea what that meant or the damage it could cause to me in the future, (becoming diabetic, eventually going blind, losing kidney function, losing sensation in my limbs and maybe leading to leg amputations--I know right), I just thought it was something to add to my medical history. My dad was a chef and would always cook/bake and we would constantly have get togethers around food, so it was not uncommon to eat unhealthily in our house. Even when I could drive, I remember grabbing a burger and fries from McDonalds on the reg. In high school, I got a job at a fitness club and suddenly got really into becoming healthier. I learned that exercise and eating healthy felt good, but little did I understand the great I was doing for my body. I am so thankful that I made this change. This December will make 4 years since I lost my dad. His soul was beautiful, his smile could light up a room, and his personality cracked me up all the time. His good days were great, His bad days were horrible. He was an obese man, with a laundry list of medical problems. He had a massive stroke when I was a freshman in high school, and then ultimately lost his life 10 years later at age 55 to a heart attack. I fully believe this could have been prevented with a change in lifestyle, had he made it early enough. This is a home run.
