I think its absolutely bonkers that people are still being discriminated over things like skin color, piercings, or in my case tattoos. Ive had several people tell me in the past two days how I wont get hired in a professional setting because of my visible tattoos. Im in shock by it. I understand completely. I mean I know, I work in a sports bar now and I cover them up on Sundays just so people like them wont be uncomfortable with me serving them. But I dont believe that I should feel uncomfortable while serving them because theyre not even looking me in their eyes. You wear your heart on your skin in this generation. Me having tattoos shouldnt base your opinion of me. And whenever some of my customers build up enough courage to ask about them and they hear my story they completely change their attitude towards me. Some of them have even offered me jobs working for them. And they become some of my best regulars. I just want the people who do judge a person of their appearances to remember were human too. Were usually the hardest working. I know this status wont change much. And Im not planning to change the world. If people are honest with themselves when they choose a tattoo, the art will represent them better than anything that will ever come out of their mouth. The things that are most important to me are represented in the art that covers my body. My God, my family, my friends, my job, my social and historical beliefs and the aggressive or even violent nature with which I will protect all of them.....basically in that order of importance. Is it scary or repulsive to some people? Yes. Does it change who I am? No. If anything it works as an outward conscience that will forever remind me of who I am and what is important during times of trial or long after my mind starts to fade due to old age if Im blessed with a long life.
