I think its time for western military powers to go home. Dont cheer yet. The unfortunate reality of the world we live in is that some people are murderous assholes. The operating theory has been, for many decades, that what keeps these murderous assholes from overrunning any place with a power vacuum is western military power. These murderous assholes blithely kill women and children without regard. Yet somehow, every time something flares up all you hear about is how the US and other western military powers who get involved to try to contain the threat posed by murderous assholes are killing innocent people. So fine. Stop. Pull it all back. No interventions, anywhere, for any reason, period. The only time any nations military is used is in the *direct* defense of that nations borders. I wonder how long it would take for the global narrative to shift to those evil western military powers are refusing to help us, they are responsible for the deaths of innocent people because they didnt do anything to stop the murderous assholes in my country. I dont like war any more than anyone else does. I dont believe escalation is an effective means of negotiation between states or even non-state belligerents. Unfortunately, some actors simply refuse to engage on any other level. And when it happens that we step in to try to stop that engagement from spreading, then we become the bad guys. So fine. Lets pack it in. Bring everyone back home. No military aid for anyone, at all, anywhere, for any reason, for one year. Let us test these various theses about how horrible it is to have the US and other western nations involved in a conflict in your area. Iraq, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan...let them sink or swim on their own. Sorry, were not an imperialist power, we cant use our military in your sovereign territory. We take it for granted that if western military powers just stay out of it, everything will be rainbows and puppies. So fine: lets find out.
