I think of the entire fashion industry as a vast swindle. I like classic, simple, durable clothing. Flannel, cotton, denim, wool, leather. Footwear should last 20 years or more. 10 years for everything else. The clothing I see at all discount stores like Wal-mart is cheap shit. Thin fabrics. Even Winter clothes arent fit for more than a few minutes outside. I went the other day and asked an employee, Where are the coats? Right behind you. said the young woman. No. I mean the coats. Not jackets. A coat. At this, she became annoyed and said, This is all we have. I couldnt believe it. Thin-shelled nylon crap. To prepare for my interview last week, I went to Target. I wandered through the Mens department, increasingly annoyed. Again, I asked an employee Where are the mens dress shirts? She brightly led me to a rack. Here you are! I looked at the shirts and looked back at her. She was smiling expectantly ---- I can only assume she wanted praise. No, I mean the MENS dress shirts. I was surrounded by plaids and patterns, in thin button-down styles. I need a few dress shirts with a 19 inch neck, 54 inch chest and 32 inch arms. The girl laughed. You need to go to a mens store. We dont have anything like that. So now, just to get a dress shirt (I used to buy them at Value City for $10 each) I have to go to the Mens Wearhouse and spend $60 on each shirt?
