I think our sewer may have frozen during the extended cold snap. It was intermittently backing up, but only from certain drains in the house. I think the trunk lines froze before they converge at the main. Filling several basins with scalding hot water and dumping them all at once cause a big backup, but then, Whoosh! Everything suddenly drained all at once. We live in the city, have a full basement, and everything is well below frost line. Is nothing safe from the polar vortex??
