I think that after 20 years the Gambia has come a long way. On the hard side, we have established a wide and enviable net work of road, telecommunication, electricity, water, health, education, agriculture and governance infrastructure. On the soft side, we have a robust republican constitution, a sophisticated compendium of policy and legal frameworks all set with clear lines of action between state, civil society and private sector players in the economy.. Current indicators show that our economy is faring well by West African standards, but there is till a lot of poverty and also some anxiety in the public space. In my view our biggest challenges are rooted in the problematic of capacity, coordination and consistency in public policy. I think we just have to be more vigilant with things as planned in our constitution and laws, we have to focus more on opening up the economy and sustaining the energy with affirmative actions in participation and inclusiveness in a democratic polity.
