I think that people forget that the word Muslim does not refer to a certain ethnicity of people, it only refers to people of the religion of Islam. You will be hard pressed to find the truth about how much Muslims and many other religions followers have contributed to the foundation of America if you stick to the way it is presented in American history. You have to dig below the surface. The very first and oldest US treaty (Peace and Friendship) was signed with a predominantly Islamic country. How could Muslims not have a contribution? Thomas Jefferson studied the Quran as well as other founding fathers. Thomas Jefferson had a close friend by the name of George English A.K.A Mohammad Afendi, who converted to Islam and served the country honorably. Islam and Muslims had to have played a part in the fabric of this country. America just has a problem with telling the whole truth now a days. The truth is out there, you just have to seek with clear eyes and a clear mind. I dont see what the problem is with the President of the United States thanking Muslim Americans for their contributions to the United States. It shouldnt even be an issue.
