I think the Arab spring has been in vain. It is has failed to - TopicsExpress

I think the Arab spring has been in vain. It is has failed to bring about positive change cos it was championed by crowds of protesters who lacked revolutionary discipline. There were no revolutionary guards to enforce discipline. The absence of revolutionary guards was the missing link for it to succeed. There needed to be an armed wing of protesters to draw red lines for the crowds. And that is what makes worry about the kind of wave of discontent that FDC is riding on in Uganda. It seems FDC is hoping for an Arab Spring in Uganda and if it comes, Uganda, with the riotus youth we have today will not be a good place to live in. If not how come Iran’s revolution of 1979 succeeded while that of Egypt, Libya and Tunisia have not?
